Happy sixth week of summer!

This week we'll be multiplying a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number using expanded form. If you remember, we did a little bit of this using mental math. Don't forget to round numbers to find an estimate to check if your answer is reasonable.

For example:
739 x 6

Estimate first: 700 x 6 = 4200

Because we rounded 739 down, our actual product will be higher than 4200.

739 = 700 + 30 + 9

We are going to multiply each of those numbers by 6 and then add all the products.
700 x 6 = 4200
30   x 6 =   180
9     x 6 =  + 54
                4434

4434 is more than 4200 so our answer is reasonable.

Try the examples below. I think you should be able to complete the questions without using base-ten blocks.

In the spirit of the Blue Jays quest for a play-off spot, here's a link to a beautiful baseball story.
What do you think is the message? Kevin Costner gives you a lot of hints!
